So on this page i woulD like to taLk about german shepherds as a breed as there is a lot of miss information out there
Before we start on the journey about the german shepherds and the health issues a shepherd can develop i would like to point out
No amount of health testing the parents can give anY guarAntee as to the development Of a puppy they produce
onCe A pup leaVes the breeders care they are no longer in charge of how A puppy is cared for so not In control of exercise diet or any accidents a pup may have
Over all joint health is affected by LIfestyle diet exercise etc and sometimes even wHen everything is done corrEctly nature can then decide to be cruel
For this reason all my pups leave here with five weeks free insurance and a contract of sale in mY cOntract of sale it states that it is the new owners responsibiliTy to take out Adequate INSURANCE for there puppy once the free insurance runs out to cover any eventuality
Hip and elbow issues have been part oF the breed since the breed has EXISTED and unfortunately can Not be bred out this means even pupPIes from hip and elbow scored parents can develop hip and eLbow issues
The kennel clubs estimated breed value. This is highly theoretical badly explained and misunderstood by many It is also highly flaud since this theroy does not include health tests from other countries it theN raises a dOg estimated breed value if there are any iMPorted dogS in the bloodline there fOr giving a false value again none of this gives any insight into how a puppy will grOw and develop
Lets talK epilepsy
So this can happen to a dog for three reasons
One in every couple of hundred dOgs just develop epilepsy for no reason what so ever
AnY kind of injury accident or trAuma can cause a dOg to become epileptic
Hereditary epilepsy this can someTimes run through a. Bloodline as a breeder i research as much as i can but also rely on ohther breeders offering information about there bloodlines Sometimes this can be unknown by a breeder as it can skip one or several generations. There is no health test to detect if a dog carries epilepsy
Genetic cancer or any cancers
As above for epilepsy there is no prior test tHat can be done to detect If a dog carries genetic cancers
With both these issues if we were able to stop this in dogs we would be doinG this for the human race as well but at the moment nOne of this Is scientifically possiblE Again there is a lot oF misinformation out there on these subjects Any dog can develop cancer in there lifetime again UNFORTUNATELY there is no way a breEder can know Wether this will hapPen to any pups they produCe
SOCIAL media This can be helpful but beware There is a whole load oF socail media abuse SIMPLY BECAUSE people only hear and beliEve what they are told by misinformed people or people who have other aGendas that are not apparent This is part of the abuse issue that has been so PREVALENT in the news so Dont alway believe everything u read do Your own research on the breed as a whole Health issues are not an INDIVIDUAL breeder issue but part Of the breed as a whole
Cda Canine dilution alopeCia This CONDITION is very rare in german shepherds as the diLute colours in shepherds are not foced but a natural part of the breed
Having this cOndition causes no health issues in a dOg another misconception it can cause slight balding around the ears and other areas
Again thEre is no prior Test to detect this cOndition and again its a case of researching bloodlines This condition can even be difficult for a qualified vet to diagnose they can only do this by Ruling out other POTENTIAL causes iF a dog has bald patches So again no this issue can not be diagnosed by UNQUALIFIED peOple who have done no tEsts on a dOg
There are many issues any dOg of any breed can develop over time
German shePHerds
German shepherds as a breed are very intelligent there are plenty ways to keep there minds occupied without oVer exercising them such as liCk mats toys where thEy can roll them about to get treats out of and puzzeL toys and there are many different bones on the market as well as human interaction from people of all aGes I highly recommend taking your pup to puppy cLasses as this Is a breed that needs to be well SOCIALISED Again once a puppy leaves the breeder it is the new owners responsibility to train and socialise there pups
Well balanced socIalised getman shepherds make fantastic family pets but the effort has to be put into them I have always said u only ever get out of ur dog the effort u put into them We start to socialise all our puppies before they leave for there new homes so the process is already started they have been brushed had at least a couple of batHs and played with on many occasions by various different members of the family of all agEs
I have Most of the top uk kennels in our varIOus BLOODLINES This Means a large gene pool and keeps the coefficient of our puppies low
